Boxing Day Horse Racing: Huntingdon is given all clear after inspection

Posted on December 26, 2009. Filed under: Sports | Tags: , , |

Boxing Day racing at Huntingdon will go ahead after an 8am inspection gave the all clear, with rising temperatures thawing the snow that was lying on the course.

Clerk of the course Andrew Morris said: “We’re racing which is fantastic news. Temperatures got upto +2 degrees at midnight last night [Friday] and since then they’ve been steadily rising to what they are now – +5.5 degrees.

“The majority of the snow has gone, there is one patch of frozen ground which is on the entrance to the back straight but we’ll have no problems railing it off.

“The going has eased considerably since declarations, it’s good tosoft, soft in places on the hurdles course and good to soft on the chase course. It will be tiring, tacky ground.”

The first race is due off at 12.05.
